Simple Message for 2024

image

Do you feel like the days are to short for fitness?

Similar to many of you, the heap of responsibilities escalates annually, and finding open time seems more challenging than ever.

In recent blitz newsletters, I've been cautioning about the perils of anticipating swift results, particularly in the realm of health and fitness.

As we step into this new year, my straightforward message to you is this:

Keep it simple, keep it consistent.

Avoid Repeating My Errors This Year.

If there's one thing you know about me, it's my passion for faith, family and training. On days when I can squeeze in an extended gym session, I'm all in.

However, trouble ensues when I set overly ambitious expectations for myself, leading to injuries or burnout without fail.

Approaching the age of 40, I've adjusted my training approach, reducing my workout time to a minimum of 3 focused hours of lifting per week.

If I manage one or two additional hours, that's fantastic, but I've eased the pressure on myself. I remain active, prioritize protein intake, and maximize walking in between.

Surprisingly, I've discovered that, for many, 3 hours a week in the gym is sufficient to stay fit, strong, and muscular.

However, smart training is crucial. Drawing from decades of experience in training and coaching, I've identified three essential elements:

  1. Thoughtful warm-ups and preparation.
  2. Movements that strengthen the entire body, including joints.
  3. Progressive overload techniques that yield tangible results.

Yearning for small victories as well?

If you're contemplating New Year's goals, consider setting the bar a bit lower. What can you realistically achieve each week, given the time constraints you may face?

Remember, you can always do more as a bonus but keep it simple, keep it consistent.
